Learning to manage crises in emergency situations
The manager or lead facilitator ( manager a crisis unit ), will have to ask and answer the above questions if he wants to have all the assets to face a crisis and overcome it, not forgetting to draw from the experience, consequences of the result.
Crisis centers exist in all areas, and do not manage the same way, indeed a municipality does not have the same requirements as a ministry, an international organization should address the problem differently association, or SMEs, yet the crisis cells have to exist, although their extent and severity, they may differ. (IT, Technical, Industrial, Meteorological, Climate …)
One of the best written on the subject, I found in the writings of Patrick Lagadec (Polytechnique Research Director and Doctor of Political Sciences), which describes there are more than 20 years now, an excellent document, on the subject:Cell crisis, the conditions for efficient driving.
What the author of this article retained is that the crisis centers and management, is a learning ground and appropriate constantly test the process in place to make a profit further enhancing actions.
However, if the world almost all entities or organizations may be involved, they are nevertheless the companies and local administrations, which are the most exposed to these crises, which sometimes can be significant, especially when it comes to industrial accidents (explosions) or natural risks of the kind of goods (earthquake, weather, weather floods, dam failures, extreme cold or epidemics ….) etc. etc.
In all cases, what should be remembered is that it is impossible to manage a crisis unit, without contextual communication plans specific to each of the situations, and all of which will reflect the situation emergency.
Not wanting to make a endless inventory we show below a few situations that lately we have worked or participated in their establishment, each with a communication plan to manage the crisis.
Examples of crisis situations with communication plan:- Crisis and Crisis Management for common backup map: Town halls set up a crisis center or municipal level backup PCS
- Crisis Plan for forecasting flood risk: Local governments communicate to citizens weather alerts by SMS
- Communication Plan for the White Plan in the world of public health, hospitals (epidemic alert heatwave alert)
- Crisis for road traffic to stop drivers during heavy snowfall.
- Crisis for weather: The Councils are implementing sophisticated process to return the students home by school buses, in case of heavy snowfall.
Each crisis situation it is essential to control the mechanisms that allow the implementation and thus be able to organize a communication plan to manage the operation of the Crisis.
You are a professional in charge of a department with heavy responsibilities, an official Quality, Quality, Environment and Safety of people and goods, operational managers in charge of risk management and crisis situations .

The key feature to manage a crisis unit is to communicate well, and furniture skills so organized and structured to deal optimally to the hazards encountered; without a structured approach, which should detail and take all steps to be considered, the risks are great to dead ends and be totally overwhelmed. -
